hip hop, rnb or club bangers?

[Song] Tupac - Changes (one of his hottest tracks released!)

I've realised that i haven't been listening to Hip-hop or RnB music recently.

The past few months, i've been updating my MP3 library with mando/canto pop music.

I feel that i've lost a connection with reality. I started listening to some Tupac and Notorious BIG a few hours ago, and i noticed that Hip-Hop music plays a part in my life. Listening to stories about truth and realityreally makes me think. Without it, I seem to lose track of what's 'real'.

Don't get me wrong, i do enjoy pop hits and canto/mando songs, but they just don't seem to send the msg that i'm looking for. Most of these songs contain lyrics about love or issues that are not so important. However, Hip-Hop music, tells a story.
It tells the listener, about hardships in the ghettos, drugs, gangs, poverty and the occassional bitch/hoe. Though the lyrics contain alot of profanity, atleast the rapper is telling it how it is.

The issues mentioned in a Hip-Hop tune is something that alot of Singaporeans or ppl in asia don't understand and probably wouldn't ever be able to relate to. As for me, growing up in Canada, there were alot of things that i've seen and many things that i've been through, that allows me to relate to some of these rappers.

Hip-Hop is a culture to the people that can appreciate it. It's like learning about a new countries culture. But for Hip-Hop it is about learning about a culture that can be experienced all over the world.

A few months back, i've introduced some artists to my friend, Alan. I don't know if he can appreciate what is being said or not, but he had the heart to listen and approach me to find out what is in the msgs of Hip-Hop music.

Is music that important? Well to me, Yes! To many others, they probably just enjoy listening to music to past time or relax.

Many get the misconception about Hip-Hop, Rap and RnB music.

Here is the difference.

1) Hip-hop music is about life, truth and reality. They can range from being a kid growing up to the matters around in politics. Hip-hop is appreciated, only if you are willing to understand the lyrics and feel what the artist has to say. It is a culture that many will never be able to experience. It is music that has meaning.

Example of hip hop artists' would be:

Tupac, Notorious BIG, Talib Kwali, Mos Def.

2) Rap is not an actual form of music, it's a style. Rap is the form of rhyming in speed that most individuals can't reach. To reach the speeds of a rapper takes alot of training. The words must be pronounced in full, even though you may not understand them. Twista, being one of the fastest rappers around in the industry, can spit rhymes in rapid speeds.

Example of rappers would be:

Twista, 50 Cent, Eminem.

*Almost all rappers are hip-hop artists.*

3) RnB is an acronym for Rhythem and Blues. Many disregard Club banging hits to be RnB music. To tell you the truth, it's not. RnB music is meant to discuss about love, families, heart brakes and hardships. true RnB is music that can make you think and/or cry.

Usher, being one of the worlds renowned RnB artists around, is a talented vocalist. But many of his tracks, like the most popular, Yeah! is not real RnB. I regard these tracks to be categorised into Club Hits.

True RnB hits would be, for example:

Lionel Richie - Hello
Usher - Confessions
K-ci and Jojo - Crazy
Ray j - One wish

4) Club hits, whether it's a rapper or RnB artists, are tracks that people can groove to. Because we can't categorise these hits into a proper category, we just automatically call them RnB.

For example:

Usher - Yeah
50 Cent - Candy Shop

see the difference? they are just club hits. they just talk about issues, about sex and partying or whatever. They rely on the beats more than their lyrics. Many artists release club hits because they want to boost record sales. Club hits, are popular in clubs and pubs because they give the crowd a sensation to move, enjoy and break free. No one would want to listen to a love song or to a song that doesn't have a very high up-beat in a club. This is why many artist release club hits.

*To me, some hip-hop artists that release club hits, are sell-outs. They forget the meaning of hip-hop and what they were rapping for. Now they just care about how much money they make, where they stand on the charts and which award are they going to receive.*

- So which type of music do you prefer?

For me, it's Hip-hop and RnB. Club Hits are great for a night out in the town, love it!

Many people in Asia, don't enjoy listening to Hip-hop music. Asians in Canada and US, enjoy hip-hop because they can understand where the artist is coming from. They've seen, heard or experienced these hardships that are being said in a true hip-hop tune. it's a shame, that hip-hop and RnB music, isn't being enjoyed by a good majority of Asians in Asia.

Many opt for trance, techno or dance. I find the technique to produce these types of music, fascinating, but too much for me, is killer. I admit i use to be a fan, but only when i was high. Now, it's just a bunch of noise, with no meaning. Don't get me wrong, I have no disrespect for the producer or listeners of these styles of music, but i find i just find it hard to cope with. Maybe you may feel the same for Hip-hop or RnB music, it's truely understandable.

I hope you get a better understanding about what the differences are between the styles of music discussed.

For now, i'm out! respects! peace!

P.S. There are alot of slangs that i've lost. I miss talking in slangs, dammit! lol! With people in Canada, it was easy and fun to talk with slangs, cuz most adults wouldn't understand. It also, puts you on a different social level! haha! (just wanted to add this in) if you wanna learn, i can teach...please please please? haha! i'm desperate! lol!

Oh. My. Gosh. Richie.

What a great entry!

This is one side I've never seen before! So you can be deep in thoughts, and journalise it as well!

Well done, Richie. I particularly liked this entry of yours. Keep up such writing if you can, because it can really express your emotions and thoughts very well.

Yeah, I probably will not be able to fully understand you, but reading a part of your brain is a good way to partially understand.

Good entry, Richie!
