Eve of CNY

It was a great and wonderful time spent yesterday with Liang, her mom and aunt.

Despite the communication problems, culture gap and age gaps, this was the most memorable, fulfilling and best learning experience i've ever had during any Lunar New year. Liang's Aunt, didn't know me at all, but she opened her home to me - whole heartedly. It was great. The food was amazing!

Past Chinese New Year celebrations, start and end at a banquet dinner. After dinner, we would take the youngin's out for a drink or what nots. It's boring, it's reptitive and there's no excitement.

This year was an exception. I've been enlightened to a new way of clebrating Chinese New Years. The way Liang and her family/friends celebrated really made my view on chinese new years different. The way they come together, talk and hand-make food was really an insight.

They showed me a tradition, that many practice in asia, something that really differs from back home. I have just been exposed to something new, something exciting.

I love to learn about new cultures and traditions, but when it comes to chinese traditions and all, i can truthfully say that i dislike them. I don't know why this is. It may be the fact that chinese people love to eleaborate on many things and some of their beliefs and superstitions are a bit over the borad, so to speak. However, after lastnight, my views on some chinese cultures, have changed. I now know that i must look on EVEN MORE brighter sides of things.

I've grown up in an environment that does not celebrate chinese new years. The asian community, back home in canada, try their best to make it as lively as possible, but it's sad to say that, it's not the greatest. Many traditions and cultures are lost within our western society.

Thx Liang Liang, her mom, her aunt and her friends for giving me a night i shall never forget. Even though i didn't really say anything because of the language problems, but it was an experience i will never forget. and thx for teaching me to make dumplings, haha!
